Drop of the Day - Antipodes
Drawn from New Zealand’s deepest high quality water source and requiring only a simple microfiltration before bottling, Antipodes water is exceptionally pure.
A water’s subtle taste can be determined by the amount of minerals per litre. At just 130 milligrams per litre Antipodes’ minerality is remarkably low in comparison to many other waters. With much of this light minerality composed of silica, their water offers a gentle, silky texture on the palate. The average pH level of Antipodes at source, is a neutral 7.0, providing Antipodes with its unique clean and subtle taste.
Key to discovering a fine water is to taste through a range of waters and gauge purity, mineral flavours and the sense of satisfaction that each may bring.
Antipodes Still
A super shiny appearance with a brilliant silver shimmer, Antipodes Still hits the nose with its very neutral, subtle fresh appeal. On the palate, the water has a soft feminine approach with a silken, slippery texture and a gentle crisp appeal. Very light in body with a subtle yet noticeable greywacke mineral lift. The finish is refreshing and, like diving into a high-altitude mountain lake, awakens the body, mind and palate.
We recommend pairing Antipodes Still with heavy meat-based soups and stews like out Prawn, Chorizo and Fish Stew as the light mineral taste won’t overwhelm the flavours of the broth and actually help in cleansing the palate. On the flip side, however, a light meal like our Melon, Mozzarella and Prosciutto Salad would also complement the light mineral taste of Antipodes Still.
Antipodes Sparkling
Antipodes Sparkling is striking with a brilliant shiny appearance and a high silver reflection. On the nose, however, is a gentle mineral suggestion. On the palate the immediate hit of the CO2 emphasises a more masculine expression than with the still water. This CO2 in particular also shows off the minerality within the water – which remains gentle in texture, but with a slightly louder voice. If we were to suggest any other flavours it would be a citrus note due to the high toned lift the water expresses. There is a definite ‘more-ish’ quality to this sparkling water – the palate seeks another mouthful to continually refresh and revitalise the taste buds.
In enjoying this sparkling water, you will discover its suitability for preparing the palate for enjoying food, fine wine – or both!
Antipodes Sparkling is ideally suited to meat dishes such as our Slow-Cooked Italian Beef Cheek Ragu with Pappardelle to provide a sharp contrast with the flavours of the dish. You could easily follow this up with dessert like Butterscotch, Ginger and Pear Self-Saucing Pudding to achieve a similar palate cleansing effect.
