The people have spoken
A social pop-up wine bar offering people the chance to make their own wine has resulted in the release of two new wines based on the most popular blends
The two limited release wines, ‘Your Red Blend’ and ‘Your White Blend’ were the most popular combinations created by Kiwi participants in the Blend by Jacob's Creek experience held earlier this year, both online and at the Blend Bar in downtown Auckland.
Visitors to the social pop up wine bar worked one-on-one with a winemaker to create their own wine blend, adding different amounts of the various base wines (four red or four white) to match their taste and create their signature Blend, which was then bottled on the spot, complete with a personalised label.
The final blends for the two new release wines were compiled from data crowd-sourced from the more than 16,000 blends created during January and February 2014.
Jacob’s Creek Chief Winemaker, Bernard Hickin, says it's provided new insights into the New Zealand palate. “The red blend shows that New Zealanders enjoy ripe fruit flavours with complexity, but they also appreciate sound tannin structure in their wines. The white blend reflects a New Zealand preference for crisp aromatic styles, but they like this nicely balanced with some fruit sweetness.”
The two Limited Release Blend by Jacob’s Creek wines will be available nationally from mid-April while stocks last. RRP$13.30.
