Five of the Best: Our Favourite Outdoor Dining Spaces in Auckland
Spring is here and so is outdoor dining. We tell you the best places in Auckland to eat al fresco.
Ortolana, Britomart
It may be located smack bang in central Auckland but Ortolana feels world’s away. Their open courtyard is covered but in no one feels closed in. The relaxed setting allows you to enjoy their European-inspired menu which focuses on the best seasonal and local produce. And if you’re feeling a little chilly they even offer blankets to keep you snug.
The Tasting Shed, Kumeu
If you’re prepared to go a little further afield The Tasting Shed in Kumeu will not disappoint. The rustic benches and sprawling lawns are the ideal place to dine in the sun (and enjoy a glass of wine or two!)
NSP, Parnell
This Parnell stalwart has been serving up traditional Italian food since the 90s in their leafy courtyard, instantly transporting you to a Tuscan garden. What’s more, the light-filled area is completely sheltered from the elements meaning you can enjoy the outside ambience no matter what the seasonal spring weather brings.
Mudbrick Restaurant & Vineyard, Waiheke
We’re aware it’s not technically in Auckland, but if you’re looking for an outdoor spot you can’t overlook this gem. Just a half an hour ferry ride away and you’ll find the cobbled pathways, idyllic gardens and spanning views of Rangitoto are on par with their extensive menu and wine pairings.
Mission Bay Pavilion, Mission Bay
Providing a beachfront escape right by the sand, this stunning eatery is located in the historic 19th Century Mission Building. And if the sea-facing lemon-tree speckled courtyard isn’t enough of a pull, then the menu sure will be. Dotted with ocean-offerings it’s a fish-lovers delight with the likes of their squid ink spaghetti, snapper pie and trevally ceviche to choose from.
