Tomorrow's Treat – Mint Cakery, Auckland

After a successful couple of years selling her cakes at market stalls, baker Michelle Bevan now has a sweet wee store.
If you've come across Mint Cakery's creations before, chances are you would have been tempted by their gorgeous cakes topped with beautiful flowers and lashings of icing. After teaching cake decorating to others and studying food, Michelle Bevan started selling her creations at the Mt Albert market. She's now opened a lovely store in Point Chevalier where a cabinet brimming with amazing cakes is visible from the window outside. They're also serving up delicious Flight Coffee, making Mint Cakery a one-stop shop for morning or afternoon tea.
We left the store with a box full of treats: a lime and coconut cake, plum and almond crumble cake and a black forest cake with dark chocolate and raspberry. Other options included sticky date and salted caramel and a rather decadent-looking brownie – with flavours that change daily, Michelle advises the best way to keep up with what's up for grabs is to follow them on social media. A glimpse through the window works too, of course.
Full-sized cakes are also available to order in a range of delectable flavours, and Michelle also has a few more plans on the way for the store, which has only been open for a couple of months. Watch this space, preferably with cake and coffee in hand.
