Danish restaurant Noma has again been voted 'World's Best Restaurant' - its fourth time in the number one spot on the prestigious list of the World's 50 Best Restaurants, just announced in London.
The Copenhagen restaurant, helmed by chef Rene Redzepi, is known for its championing of Nordic cuisine and use of foraged and local ingredients. Noma won the title of 'World's Best Restaurant' consecutively in 2010, 2011 and 2012, dropping to number two under Spain's El Celler de Can Roca last year, but regaining the top spot in the 2014 awards, which were announced at a glittering ceremony in London attended by many of the top chefs from around the world.
'The World's 50 Best Restaurants' awards list is organised by Restaurant magazine and is compiled from votes by an influential group of over 900 international leaders in the restaurant industry - including food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs and highly regarded 'gastronomes'.
The 2014 list shows Spain continues to be a force in global cuisine with seven restaurants in the Top 50, three of which are in the Top 10; the USA is close behind also with seven on the list and two in the Top 10.
New Zealand chef Ben Shewry won the title of 'Best Restaurant in Australasia' for his Melbourne restaurant Attica, ranking number 32, down from his placing at number 21 last year.
The Top 10 in the World's 50 Best Restaurant Awards are:
1) Noma, Denmark
2) El Celler de Can Roca, Spain
3) Osteria Francescana, Italy
4) Eleven Madison Park, USA
5) Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, UK
6) Mugaritz, Spain
7) D.O.M, Brazil
8) Arzak, Spain
