Hotel Montreal, Christchurch
Warmed by a crackling fire, listening to the sound of cocktail shakers in action anticipating an Argentinian-inspired feast…we can’t wait to head back!
When you enter the Polo Bar and Restaurant at Hotel Montreal in Christchurch, you immediately have a sense that something good will come. From the sophisticated yet comfortable surroundings to the heavenly aromas wafting from the kitchen to the smile from the bartender and helpful wait staff, this is the place to be -to relax, to share, to enjoy.
Chef Jay Refugia has created an Argentinian inspired menu using only the best, freshest and locally hand crafted foods from the Canterbury region. So focused on local, Jay creates special cocktails and dishes using the honey from the beehives on the rooftop of the hotel.
Enjoy al fresco dining or a lovely long lunch by the fire indoors. The croquet court may appeal while you sip and taste the variety of cured meats, smoked fish, aged cheeses and more.
You don’t need to stay to enjoy the mouth-watering goodness from Jay’s kitchen, but you should.

Issue #115
Issue 115 is packed with inspiration for all kinds of cosy meals – whether you’re dining alone, as two or with a few. We start with our Plating Game interview with Jesse Mulligan which inspired a medley of curries and sides then move on to a round up of easy one-pan chicken dishes, a variety of pasta bakes and meatballs, and using one simple yet delicious tart base we whip up five fab filling options. Sarah’s wintry faves include a moreish chorizo (not) carbonara, lamb and spinach filo pie and we finish off with sweet treats and decadent puds. We love seeing what you create, don’t forget to share your dish dishes with our Facebook community. When it comes to winter cooking, make it SIMPLY YUM!
